PLEASE MAKE SENSE
"Like some kind of beautiful crime"
Yes, it's that time of the month again! On Wednesday 31st May it's PLEASE MAKE SENSE night @ Engine Room Club in Brighton, England.

"Dress up, fuck folk."
PMS is "A Night of live bands and DJ's. Different in the sense that at a PMS night you won't have to stand and watch three bands consisting of game amateurs with great hair and no charisma or musical ability at all to get to the good stuff."
Last time we were treated to an excellent evening in the company of Oom, Pope Joan and The Mekano Set. Joy was had. Let's make this one even more joyous.

On Wednesday 31st May, from 8.30 until 1 am, we Make Sense With:
The Flesh Happening: "a frantic sound. Proper Punk Energy and attitudes like the Buzzcocks, Iggy or the first days of those Manics when You Loved Us." The Organ. A band that really have to be seen live to be fully appreciated.
The Mekano Set: "bass-heavy ambiance generated by a {three-piece} trip-hop dub outfit. Sirens luring you toward a dark fate you'll embrace." Source Magazine. The Mekanos will be joined on-stage by a surprise guest-muso.
DJ Bad Fucking Disease: "London, Paris, New York, Horsham." International men of mystery, Bad Fucking Disease spin everything from the latest indie guitar noise to the classics of indie guitar noise. They might play a bit of dance music as well if we're lucky.
With support from the mysterious electronic-rock of Cylons, and moral support, drinks and confectionary supplied by Miss Garfield, DJ Milk's iPod, ScaryCathy Security, Rollo Kim, and The Rock and Roll Sweatbox. Visual documentation by Ridder & Burch Industries.
Sooner,
The Mekano Set

Post-GiG-Blues
It's saturday afternoon and, typically, I am still a bit tipsy from the night before.
Thanks to everyone that was there for our set @ Engine Room Club on friday night. It was loads of fun. Loads of fun. There was no DJ for the night so they let us play stuff we had with us which was a bit of an added bonus - so we got to listen to plenty of new wave / indie stuff between bands.
We mixed the set up a lot more than usual - making the usually minimal and dry Invisible Girl into something a bit more soiled and militant. The girl may still be invisible, but she's actually quite angry about it at the moment.
We sort of played Dirty Hand Job in reverse, doing an extended improvized bit at the start, and only about thirty seconds of the actual song.
I really enjoyed 'doing' the bass this time as well. With my lovely, battered beginners bass. Patrick offered to leave us with his posh Washburn bass but it just didn't seem right to play it in his abscence, and also because we can't be trusted with something so shiny and valuable and not-broken. I did try using my fretless bass but due to an incident involving a wrongly-setup effects unit we can't perform a song using it without crying with laughter.
What looks like a Mac laptop on-stage is actually a series of very long tape-loops fitted into the insides of a pizza box painted up to look like a laptop. And what looks like a big pile of battered guitar effects held together with gaffa tape really is just that.
And clearly we are at the forefront of some kind of crap-shades wearing scene, man. At last, I am an EARLY ADOPTER of something!!!
Next up we are playing @ Freebutt for the annual "I WAS A TEENAGE ROBOT" Brighton Fringe live-electrickery do. More details of this will follow, but I can say that after hearing some of our songs, the film-maker who is going to be providing the visuals is apparently going to be giving us a 'Burlesque' theme... aces!
Check out some pictorial evidence from the night @ the Sweatbox Gallery {including a couple from the moment when The Machine's set was invaded by the girls who were celebrating their graduation - presumably from Junior School?!}

Just wanted to say sorry about the state of the site at the moment. There's some problems with the server side of things. Hopefully it'll get sorted out, but I'm not holding my breath. And just when the store was starting to take off. Grrrr.
