Komedy

{Beth @ Engine Room Club}
Hmmm... well it's certainly been a busy couple of weeks. But I've finally got around to taking care of some updates. And eating a sensible meal {thanks largely to Auntie Ridder}. Also, if you've been waiting for 'merchanodise' then a fresh batch of T-shirt's and CD's and other goodies went out this morning. Just like Christmas!
And well, happy birthday to Dr. Jo Staples!!! Dr. Jo is 13 years old today. Ace.
Right so... where to start. Komedia. Upstairs @ Komedia. Yeah. Were you there? It was a bit mental wasn't it? In a good way. Lovely stuff. Great turn-out. Brilliant. {Does anyone know who the DJ's were? They were excellent - they played loads of our favourite bands / peoples: PiL, P.J. Harvey, Tom Waits, Fall etc.}
I'd never been to Komedia before, let alone performed there. But I knew it was and is a 'proper' venue. I guess it typically plays host to the lighter, less scary, more mature side of musics and humours. The night, a fundraiser for St Patrick's Trust assembled by local punk promoters Rock & Roll Sweatbox, was basically home-grown alternative guitar music in seriously varied shapes and guises {everything from indie to glam}, plus a Can Can troupe. And me and Garfield.
Although, tragically, no pictorial evidence exists as far as I know, highlights for me include appearing onstage with the soon to be legendary La Frange. During their soundcheck. But still... you know...

The rest of the night is just one big blur, although I do remember me and Beth being asked to leave by a member of staff in a 'can you guys take this outside please you're causing a disturbance' type way when Beth tried to stop me from trying to carry all of our equipment home in one go. To the untrained eye it probably did look like we were about to fall down a flight of stairs in a rain of fists and biker boots and torn scalps. Again, probably not very Komedia. Off-stage at least.
Me, with a guitar-case on each shoulder, a flight-case full of cables, a mixing desk and various effects, a laptop bag and, an airport style trolley case full of more effects, more cables and other bits of junk. And so after a loud and apparently entertaining debate - I promised I'd get a taxi, then headed downstairs and walked home. I didn't want to go, I didn't want to drag it all by myself, I just figured I'd better face it while I was still awake and sober enough to remember all our bits and pieces, and as I only live about a fifteen minute walk from the venue it seemed just as silly to get a taxi.
Again, I really wish someone had gotten a picture of that. Instead, let's have something a bit more sassy shall we:

Exhibit B: Oliver from The Flesh Happening and Garfield from The Mekano Set throwing some shapes @ PLEASE MAKE SENSE. There's also some pictures of Miss G and Ridder Ace Photog throwing some equally brilliant shapes, but some of the images are a little too raunchy (for you - and so will be going straight into the private archive located in the shoe box beneath my bed.)

Here's a picture of me, also from the PMS night, looking like a complete idiot. For a change...

This is Hayashi from Polysics and Miss G. Nice.

This is Hayashi from Polysics and that bloke from The Mekano Set again, offering the traditional Mekanoid 'Public Image Limited' badge of friendship.

Now then, time for some links:
First off, if you were at Komedia you may have noticed that we were only a twosome. The nice young Irish lad who normally comes out to play is currently exploring the globe in search of the 'new bass sound'. He is also intent on launching his career as a Bollywood Movie Extra. Our Russian minder will also be accompanying him, so at least we know he'll be safe. That's a picture of them that they sent to me from Russia. Oh how they've grown.
You can read of their adventures @ Last Train to Transcentral, their travelblog. {Wherever you are kids, we miss you very much and hope you are having a top time! Please come back, we can change!?!}
Still with me? If you have a click on over to the extras page you'll find a remix we did for Al Neilson's 'Life Gets...' song.
There are a few fresh new images in the... images section from some recent gigs.
Our song 'To The Doghouse' is now available as a free download in the mp3 section too.
And there are also a load of images from the Komedia St Patrick's Trust benefit show @ Rock and Roll Sweatbox. But please be aware that some of them are a bit 'not office / parent friendly'.

Phew. OK, that's all for the mo. Time for a breather.
Be seeing you.
